The service is free, confidential and multilingual. Monthly activities for children (ages six to 12) and youth (ages 12 to18) for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, siblings, and Children of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Adults (CODA) are welcome to attend. Subsidies are available upon request. Past events have been: snow shoeing, rock climbing, canoeing, bowling, skating, archery, and many more. The Children’s Cottage Society is a Crisis Nursery and Respite Service helping vulnerable children and their families. Over the last 21 years, the Cottage has developed into a multi-service facility offering four unique programs to strengthen families and reduce the risk of abuse and neglect to children. Our Crisis Nursery continues to be the only one available in Calgary. Twelve beds are available 24/7 for children age 0 to eight years for up to 72 hours. Our services are offered free of charge (and no financial means test is applied for a parent who has requested our services).

 

Heart of the Northeast Community Solutions Resource Centre/Aspen Family and Community Network Society

Connects residents living in Rundle, Whitehorn, Temple, Pineridge, Monterey Park and Vista Heights by providing resources and supports through referrals to appropriate community agencies. Works closely with partnering agencies to meet the ongoing needs of the community. Collaborating with the Hand and Hand Parent Link Centre, we are able to offer supports for parents with children ages 0 to six. This is unique to residents of the North East. Such programs include: Parent Cafe, Baby Club, Toy Lending Library, Stroller Lending Library, and Cross Cultural Parenting Workshops.

Discovery House is a second stage shelter that offers protective and supportive services for women with children who have left an environment of family violence. Core services include low rent housing, on-site support and counselling for the residents, and psycho-educational groups. Provides a health and well-being promotion program for women. Supports include: free short-term counselling with a psychologist, nurse or dietitian; workshops for women on topics like parenting, nutrition, relationships, financial management, exercise, emotional and physical health; a free bi-monthly newsletter with current health and well-being topics; access to a lending library; and an outreach program offering education and resources for those who have difficulty accessing services.

The seminar is about how the divorce process affects children. As of September 1, 1997, anyone who files for divorce or judicial separation, or where custody, access, or child support is in dispute is required by the court to attend the Parenting After Separation Seminar. Mount Royal College is contracted to run the program.

Ready, Set, Go! takes advantage of an optimum time in a child's development to encourage and support learning, early literacy, socialization, creativity, physical growth, problem-solving skills, and emotional literacy.

A free, play-based, multi-sensory program aimed at building, enhancing, and strengthening the parent-child relationship. Program supports the pregnant and parenting health of families in the Erinwoods, Forest Lawn, Forest Heights, Dover and Radisson communities. The YWCA of Calgary offers programs and services for women and their families providing them with the skills, abilities and opportunities to contribute to and benefit from healthy communities.

 
  • The Positive Parenting program is an early intervention, group program for parents looking for new approaches to building a better relationship with their children. Topics include: understanding your child, building self-esteem, positive discipline, communication skills, anger and much more. This-12 week program is offered at several different locations throughout the city. Please call 266-4111, beginning Sept 17, 2007, to register or for more information.
 
  • The COMPASS (Community Parent & School Support) Program is designed to support families whose children (0 to 12 years) are having mild to moderate social, emotional and behavioral concerns. Through the intervention of an in-home Family Support Worker, it is hoped the family will grow in confidence and ability in managing the difficulties within their families.   • The Y.A.P (Youth Advocate Program) works with youth, ages 10 to 18, who are feeling isolated, experiencing conflict, or just feel like they don’t fit in. The Youth Advocate engages directly with the youth and family on a weekly basis, for approximately 10 months. The objectives of the program are to connect the youth with community resources and recreational activities. The focus is on social skills and self-esteem development & building a support network.   • The Parent Link Corridor program is a partnership between the YWCA of Calgary, CUPS and Calgary Family Services that serves residents in the downtown core. Parents, caregivers, children and families have access to a comprehensive spectrum of support services that are child centered, accessible and community based. Salvation Army Child and Family Services BRIDGES Program

The BRIDGES program is designed for children between the ages of three- to six-years who are exhibiting significant behavioral and emotional difficulties. BRIDGES accepts children based on referrals by parents/legal guardians. BRIDGES does not have a fee for service cost; this program, and the transportation, is funded through Alberta Learning. BRIDGES’ teams include teachers, child care counselors, a speech-language pathologist, psychologists, family therapists and consulting psychiatrist.

Academy Counselling Corp. provides a full range of assessment, counselling and consulting services for: individual, couples, families, groups and organizations. Our professional staff of doctoral level psychologists and registered social workers are recognized experts regarding: school and learning problems, discipline and behavior problems, and relationship (parent-child, couple and family) concerns. Your fees may be covered in whole or in part by your extended health care plan (e.g., Blue Cross) or your EAP/AFAP provided by your employer. Medical referrals are not required.

Calgary Counselling Centre is the largest provider of counselling services in Calgary, providing compassionate, professional and affordable counselling services since 1962. Offering service in over 15 languages with no waiting list, the Centre is proud to offer programming for youth: children of divorce, eating disorders, adolescents and depression, responsible choices for children & parents - for youth who are aggressive or abusive at home or at school. The Centre’s fee structure is based on income - no one is turned away for an inability to pay.

Caring Beyond

A support group for parents who have suffered the death of a baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or genetic termination (poor pre-natal diagnosis). We are a therapeutic program that targets behaviors, both with our clients (boys and girls ages eight to12) and with their families that do not allow them to live together in a healthful and productive manner. Our goal is to work with the families, using an experiential approach, with the final outcome being that the client moves home with their family on a full-time basis, after their time with Flex House is complete.
