Ellen is the Publisher and Editor-in–Chief of the award-winning parenting publication, Calgary’s Child Magazine. Since it first hit the newsstands in 1994, Calgary’s Child Magazine has been supporting, connecting and informing parents in innovative ways. Ellen’s commitment to helping parents, children and community is evident in the hours she devotes not only to Calgary’s Child but to a variety of charities she participates in. Widely recognized for her work ethic, positive attitude and innovative strategic thinking, Ellen, a Women of Vision recipient and mother of two, brings both a fresh and informed perspective to the issues that shape the lives of Albertans. AMANDA MCDONALD – Art Director
Amanda has 20+ years of design experience both in the UK and Canada. She credits her success to having had the opportunity to work for high-end advertising agencies, prestigious clients and alongside the finest designers. Over her career she has established a love for designing magazines and after moving to Canada in 2002 has successfully pursued that passion. She is delighted to be Calgary's Child Magazine's Art Director.
BARB O’NEILL – Sales Director
Barb, part of our dynamic duo sales team with Laura Dupont, has been with Calgary’s Child since 1999. She is the Advertising Sales Director for Calgary’s Child Magazine and she has all the answers to your advertising questions - seriously! Barb can help you maximize your exposure while keeping within your advertising budget, and assist you to develop a marketing plan that works best for your individual business. LAURA DUPONT – Project Manager
Laura, the second member of our dynamic Sales Team, has been a valued part of the Calgary’s Child team since 2003. Laura is our Project Manager and that means that once you have booked your display advertising with Barb you will be in her very capable hands. Turn to her for all of your display (online and print) advertising questions; Laura is here to assist you with your day-to-day needs. She’s happy to help if you need to have artwork designed or need ad or classified listing revisions or have any questions relating to your advertising, your contract, artwork, coupons, online ads or invoicing.
MELISSA MICHTA THOMSON – Copy Editor, Feature Writer
Melissa is a word nerd. Defuse vs. Diffuse; Farther vs. Further? These details are her passion. For the past eight years, she has ensured writers’ articles are concise, consistent, and grammatically and factually correct. She also writes for the publication, mainly contributing the Annual Summer Fun & Travel Wish List and Annual Holiday Wish List, providing a wide array of the latest and greatest toys and nifty gadgets for every member of your family. In addition, Melissa brainstorms topics and books local experts for the Calgary’s Child Parenting Segment on Global Morning News, aired twice weekly on Mondays and Saturdays. ALLISON PERCIVAL, BA, B.Ed. – Assistant Publisher, Website Manager
Allie wears many hats at Calgary’s Child Magazine. While managing events and our busy social media network, she coordinates Calgary’s Child’s email hub to ensure messages get to the right place at the right time. Allie works hard to keep the office running, keep calgaryschild.com updated, and her degrees in English and Education make her a valuable member of our editorial team. Whatever our clients need, Allie gets it done (or finds someone who can!)
CATHY BONTJE – Distribution Manager
Since 1998, Cathy has been keeping our magazine efficiently and effectively distributed. She manages several distribution teams that deliver our magazines to hundreds of locations. If you would like to have magazines to distribute at your company or event, or if you are trying to find the magazine at one of our distribution locations in and around Calgary, Cathy would be happy to give you a hand.
