Sept. 17 to Nov. 1 - Illuminasia Lantern & Garden Festival at the Calgary Zoo.

The Calgary Zoo is proud to present ILLUMINASIA, Lantern & Garden Festival, presented by Sinopec Canada. The authentic Chinese lanterns will light up the zoo and set the stage for a unique experience like no other in Calgary. The festival lanterns will highlight some of the zoo’s animals while showcasing culturally symbolic animals such as the crane and iconic Chinese symbols like the Phoenix. The Dorothy Harvie Gardens will provide the backdrop through lush mosaic cultures and vegetation tapestries. Visitors will also experience authentic Chinese, Japanese and Indian entertainment and programs that spotlight food, garden art and culture. ILLUMINASIA runs Thursdays through Saturdays from 7 to 10pm and Sundays from 6pm to 9pm from September 17 to November 1. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the website.

Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! After Earth Hour, share your participation with #EarthHour and #EarthHourYYC. Email programs@arusha.org with questions.

You can travel back to prehistoric times and get up close with all 16 new animatronic dinosaurs with your general admission pass or zoo membership. Get up close with 16 new lifelike animatronic dinosaurs (they won’t bite). Download the zoo app and experience the dinosaurs in 3D like never before! Hear them roar! The dinosaurs are louder than the lions at dinnertime. Pull up your paleontologist sleeves and go looking for fossils at the new dig site. Explore Prehistoric Park with three new loops. Roar like you mean it on the new T. Rex slide. Enjoy a prehistoric hands-on experience at the new dinosaur interpretive centres. Dinosaurs poo too. Snap a photo with a pile of… well, you know. Discover fun dinosaur facts with zoo staff during daily programs. What came first: the dinosaur or the egg? Ponder this while striking a pose with dino eggs.
