Lord of the Flies is based on the 1954 dystopian novel by Nobel prize-winning English author William Golding about a group of British boys stuck on an uninhabited island who try to govern themselves with disastrous results. Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! Feb. 13 to 15 - Albertans Encouraged to Spend Family Day Celebrating ‘Golden Rules’.

Located 258 kilometres west of Calgary and catering to all tastes and budgets, families are invited to embrace Golden’s energetic spirit and experience its adventure playground. Families can supplement their schedules with a number of preplanned activities happening in town throughout the weekend, including Golden’s biggest winter event of the year and special activities at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. On February 13 at 6:45 p.m., more than 1,000 people are expected to gather in Spirit Square for Golden’s biggest winter festival. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Snow King’s Masque Parade is a combination of creative self-expression via community art-making and theatrical spectacle. Guests will welcome Snow King and Lady Spring down from the mountain with a torch-lit escort. Families have the opportunity to get involved by creating ‘low tech magic.’ The parade will then move to the Golden Civic Centre where guests will enjoy an evening of music, dancing, stilt walking and giant puppets. Snow and ice carving, shadow plays, fire spinning and other circus arts will be part of the magical evening. The gentoo penguins may be the fastest swimmers, but the king penguins know how to get around too - in wintry weather they like to take their keepers for walkabouts around the zoo grounds. Every morning at 11am, keep pace with the king penguins during their outings.
