Earth Hour 2024.

Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! After Earth Hour, share your participation with #EarthHour and #EarthHourYYC. Email programs@arusha.org with questions.

Storyteller/Musician Samantha Whelan Kotkas and her friends will entertain you and your children with musical interactive tales of child-accessible hikes in the Rocky Mountains. Teach your child about courage, unity, joyfulness, and caring in an afternoon of fun and adventure. An event for the whole family that you will want to be a part of. Recommended for children aged 5 to 12, but created with the entire family in mind. Come one hour before the show & enjoy family friendly activities. Stay after to meet the performers. Grand Opening Celebrations of Seton Calgary Public Library.

The Seton Library at the Brookfield Residential YMCA opens January 14, and the Calgary Public Library wants your family to join them for their big opening weekend! January 19 is the official opening of the Hopewell Early Learning Centre, a space for kids built around a real helicopter, courtesy of The Hangar Flight Museum. The celebration will also include a special family storytime at 11am, free crafts and activities, treats, games, door prizes, and more! The new 25,000 square foot library has plenty to offer the growing south Calgary community, such as a Teen Centre, bookable meeting rooms and auditorium, automated Chromebook lending lockers, and lots of programs and services for children and families, including the Questionarium and the Hopewell Early Learning Centre.

Frosty's Birthday at Calgary Farmers' Market.

Laugh and Play with Frosty! In partnership with Strategic Group & Project Warmth, they'll be having a celebration with the jolly happy soul. Activities from 10am to 1pm. Take a donation of gently-used winter clothing to the market to ensure everyone stays warm this winter, and you'll receive a voucher to decorate a 3-bite Jelly Modern Doughnut (while doughnut supplies last). See below for most needed clothing items. 10am: An ice sculptor will be chiseling away at giant ice blocks and creating one-of-a-kind frozen creations outside the NE entrance. His icy creations will be on display all day. 1:30 to 2pm: Calgary’s favorite magician, Christopher Cool, will be wowing kids with a fun Frosty magic show! Catch his very 'cool' show on the main stage. Frosty will be roaming around the market, so catch him if you can! Don't worry, he'll pause a moment so you can wish him Happy Birthday and snap a selfie with him. Most needed items: hats, sweaters, coats, mittens, scarves, boots, blankets and sleeping bags, warm clothing for kids, warm clothing for teens, etc.

Calgary Waldorf School Open House.

Come and explore Calgary Waldorf's Preschool and Kindergarten classrooms with your child and meet the teachers in the “Kinderwing.” Families with children entering Grades 1 to 9 are invited to drop in and visit the main school where classrooms will be open with student work on display. Staff will be available to answer your questions about the programs and about admissions.

Contemporary Kids/Color Field Painting.

The free monthly Contemporary Kids program invites families to learn about modern and contemporary art through unique and engaging art activities developed for children ages 5 to 12. The afternoon will begin with a fun image-filled exploration of color field painting and how the techniques of this movement continue to inspire the practices of contemporary artists. Children will be invited to experiment with applying colorful pigments to paper through different staining and transfer techniques to create their own artworks!
