Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! Storyteller/Musician Samantha Whelan Kotkas and her friends will entertain you and your children with musical interactive tales of child-accessible hikes in the Rocky Mountains. Sweet Dreams Dessert Days runs from April 25 to 29, and coincides with Mayor Nenshi's proclamation of April 29th being Calgary's World Wish Day! Sweet Dreams Dessert Days occurs all over Southern Alberta, with participating restaurants making specialty desserts and donating the proceeds to Make-A-Wish Southern Alberta. More than 225 synchronized swimmers from across Canada and the Americas will be at Calgary’s Talisman Centre for Synchro Canada’s 2016 Canadian Open Championships. The championships are the culmination of the 2016 competitive season for Canadian junior (ages 16 to 18) and senior athletes who will be competing for national crowns in 10 different events over the course of the week. Ever wanted to learn a fun, professionally-choreographed dance routine but never had the opportunity? Here’s your chance! Sharing Dance is an initiative motivating Canadians of all ages to participate in healthy, fun and creative dance activities. In partnership with Sharing Dance, VIVO, for Healthier Generations, is offering three free dance classes to encourage people of all ages and abilities to learn this year’s Sharing Dance Routine. Choreographed by Kevin Ormsby, the Artistic Director of KasheDance, the routine is inspired by Afro-Caribbean culture and set to Jully Black’s Sweat of Your Brow. Participants range from 7 years old to 90! This is a great chance for you to get some exercise and have fun. StoryBook is excited to be bringing everyone’s favorite bedtime book vibrantly alive on stage in a full-length new musical. Watch as Bunny’s room magically comes alive as he dances and sings his way to sweet dreams through nursery rhyme scenes with dancing bears with chairs, the Cat and the Fiddle, the Cow Jumping Over the Moon and even a trip through the night sky with dancing constellations.
