Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! Storyteller/Musician Samantha Whelan Kotkas and her friends will entertain you and your children with musical interactive tales of child-accessible hikes in the Rocky Mountains. The TD Summer Reading Club is a great way to keep kids reading all summer through fun activities, great books and prizes - and it's free! Visit your community library to register and receive your TD Summer Reading Club booklet and Reading Ballots. Then have fun reading! Books, magazines, trivia books, comics and everything else counts. Read for two hours each week (or be read to) and track your reading on the Reading Ballots. Return your completed ballots throughout the summer for a chance to win weekly prizes and grand prize: one of 20 $100 gift cards to Toys "R" Us. Drop off new school supplies to support local students in need. Most needed items are pencils, erasers, pens, lined paper, white board markers, backpacks, and lined paper. Drop off at Sylvan NE (2220, 68 Street NE, #3), Sylvan SE (5126, 126 Avenue SE, #103), or Sylvan SW (5308, 17 Avenue SW, #3).

Last Thursday of Every Month until December 2016. It runs twice a day from 10 to 11:30am and 1:30 to 3pm. The Firecrackers Preschool Program is a fun-filled preschool program that introduces basic fire safety concepts in a fun, engaging way! Kids will learn what to do when there’s a fire, go through a fire drill obstacle course, make a craft, read a story and play fun games! Thursdays in August: Discover the lure of fishing together as a family this summer! This program is designed for families with kids ages 6 and up. The best part? All fishing equipment is provided and a fishing licence is not required for participants. To register, call 403-297-6561.

The City of Calgary Ralph Klein Park Summer Drop-In Programs. Safari into the underwater world of wetland wonders on Tuesdays. Movie on August 25: Top Gun. Experience outdoor cinema like never before at The Rise: a 9-metre high natural amphitheatre at the centre of the island. Join for an epic movie series including some selections for the whole family and others for a nostalgic adult night out. Please leave your chairs at home, as they won't work on the steep slope of The Rise. If you plan to drive, the St. Patrick's Island parking lot can only be accessed via the 12th St. Bridge from Inglewood. As always, it is best to access the island by foot, bike, and public transit. There is pedestrian access from East Village and Bridgeland via the George C. King Bridge.
