Summer camp is a time-honored tradition, rich with activities, newfound friendships and a lifetime of memories. Explore a few ways to make your child’s camp experience smooth sailing from start to finish.
This year, 10 million children will tote their sleeping bags to camp. But they may not do much sleeping. For many children, overnight camp is the first time they’ve slept away from their family for more than a night or two. Add an unfamiliar bed, strange nighttime noises and the overall excitement of camp, and it’s no wonder many kids come home from camp severely overtired. So while you’re helping them pack their bags, take a few extra steps to help kids sleep well. With the shut-eye they need, they’ll enjoy all camp has to offer – and return refreshed, happy and ready to fill you in on all of their adventures.
Summer is on its way, which for many kids means a trip to camp. Summer camp can play an important role in shaping young lives, encouraging new friendships, creating awareness about the natural environment and fostering independence. But before getting on the bus (or jumping in the car), your child may be facing some pre-camp jitters. Whether sending your kids to a day or overnight camp, a little preparation can go a long way toward ensuring they have a rewarding and enriching experience.
Summer shorts and tees purchased, washed and folded neatly in the duffle bag. Bug spray, cell phone charger and the one allowable stuffed animal all packed. Immunization card submitted. Survival snacks tucked away. We were ready for her first week away from home on her own. My daughter was 10 years old and headed to summer pre-teen church camp.
