The newest trend in portable eats is the Snackle box – part fishing tackle box, part Tupperware container. The beauty of these handy snack carriers are the small compartments that are great for portioning and a wide variety of snack choices.
The Box
Yes, there are specific Snackle boxes on the market that you could pick up on Amazon, but you could also get creative and find a plethora of box options at your local hardware store. The containers for screws, nails, nuts, and bolts are the perfect size for a Snackle box. They are a nice hard plastic and they snap closed.
Another option is in the beauty or accessory section of your local drug store, or even a dollar store. Makeup or jewellery organizers can work well, since they also have the small compartments, but that means the sizes of these compartments may vary in size. That can work for popcorn or items that have a little more volume than, say, jellybeans.
The Snacks
Well, like the saying goes about cats in boxes… “If it fits, I sits!” The same goes for your snacks. You can cut vegetables to fit the compartments you have, then add things like hummus in one of the spots. Crackers, seeds, or nuts can round the outside and then some berries for a little pop of sweet. Remember, these compartments usually have lids that close tightly over each compartment so you can choose things like hummus or cream cheese and it won’t leak into the other snacks.
These Snackle boxes can almost be treated like charcuterie boards, with a wide variety of items or themes. All savory, all sweet, or a mixture of both.
A fun one that no kids would ever turn down is an all-candy one. I can’t say I would either!
Where can they be used? Anywhere!! Have Snackle, will travel! Picnics, sporting events, school, hikes, work – but, my favorite way to use them is parties!
Having a fishing themed party? Then you definitely want to use a real tackle box. A spa-themed party could use Snackle box compartments for the creams, exfoliating scrubs, and cucumbers for your eyes. Painting party? Fill each compartment with paint. We use Snackle boxes for sprinkles and decorations for our cookie-decorating parties.
When you are a busy parent, the most practical aspect of the Snackle box is they can be made in advance. If it’s all dry goods, pre-pack your Snackle boxes so they’re ready to go in the pantry. Fresher items the Snackle box can be stored in the fridge. The candy-filled ones I would store out of sight, like in the basement, so those tempting treats don’t call your name!
Hopefully we have convinced you to Tackle the Snackle! It’s not only fun to say, but a real life-saver for busy parents!
Happy Snacking!
