In recognition of Orange Shirt Day/National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Nickle Galleries and artist Adrian Stimson are offering a tour of three Indigenous Art exhibits. In the Nickle Galleries, participants will be guided through the Prairie Interlace exhibit as well as Adrian Stimson’s solo exhibition. There will also be a tour of the new, permanent Indigenous Art Collection on display throughout the Taylor Family Digital Library and an opportunity to view digital displays on the second floor.

Pokaiks Commemorative Walk & IndigiTRAILS - Remembering Our Children.

Colouring It Forward Reconciliation Society and the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth are proud to present the fourth annual Pokaiks Commemorative Walk & IndigiTRAILS - Remembering Our Children event, sometimes referred to as the Orange Shirt Day Walk. The free event will be held in Prince’s Island Park on Friday, September 30th in alignment with Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. Calgarians are invited to participate in the walk to honour and stand in solidarity with survivors and victims of the residential school system. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. on September 30th in Prince’s Island Park at the big stage and will follow a route through the park and across the river along Memorial Drive, before concluding in the park. This will be followed by traditional drumming and dancing performances, remarks from members of the Indigenous community, a reconciliation panel discussion, artisan and community booths, food and beverage offerings, and other engaging activities in Prince’s Island Park. Truth and Reconciliation Art Installation.

Southcentre Mall and Colouring It Forward Reconciliation Society are proud to present a special art installation in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th. The exhibit will showcase a variety of works from eight local Indigenous artists in Southcentre’s Centre Court from September 20th-30th. This commemorative installation will feature supersized pieces of art representing personal experiences and interpretations of Indigenous culture and the ongoing process of reconciliation. This will be supported by a double-sided activation wall, with a life-sized colouring page for the public to contribute to. The installation will also include information about CIF Reconciliation Society and reconciliACTIONS – practical steps that people can take to help foster reconciliation.

Takes place November 19 to January 2 (excluding November 23, 28 & 30 and December 3, 25 & 31). ZOOLIGHTS, presented by Olympia Trust Company, is back for its 25th year! This year's ZOOLIGHTS will feature exciting new themed areas and activities including a 25th anniversary Memory Lane, the Nutcracker in the ENMAX Conservatory, and an all-new “Tunnel of Light,” a tribute to Canada’s wetland, a holiday Zoo Market, and a very special “Dinos at Night” experience like you have never seen before! Of course, the Zoo is bringing back all the classic activities everyone has come to love like the Skating Rink, Fire pits, and Rival Axe Throwing. ZOOLIGHTS comes to life at night with twinkling lights at every turn, including over 200 light figurines, along with interactive and choreographed light displays. The lights are turned on at 5pm nightly and run until 9pm. It takes approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours to experience all that ZOOLIGHTS has to offer - but you are able to stay for as little or as long as you like!

New Blood - A Story of Reconciliation.

New Blood - A Story of Reconciliation is a widely acclaimed theatre production featuring poetry, music, contemporary and traditional dance. Directed by Deanne Bertsch, the show is inspired by the life of Chief Vincent Yellow Old Woman and his experience as a child in residential school, how he reclaimed his way of life and became chief of his people. The performance will take place on September 30th at 7pm at the Big Secret Theatre in Arts Commons. An interactive Q & A will follow the show. Artists include painters George Littlechild and Doug Levitt, drummers Skip WolfLeg and Chris Eagle Rib, vocalist Sho Blunderfield, and numerous actors and dancers. Produced in collaboration with CIF Reconciliation Society and The Rotary Club. New Blood is dedicated to equitable access to this performance.
