Half-Day Family Adventures: South Calgary Edition

Whether you have a free morning, an afternoon to fill, or out-of-town visitors to entertain, these South Calgary itineraries are designed for slowing down, exploring close to home and making memories together.

1. Bow Valley Ranche Ramble

Best for: Nature lovers (Ages two and up)

Start Here

Bow Valley Ranche, Fish Creek Provincial Park

One of Fish Creek's prettiest walks begins right here. Follow the pathways from Bow Valley Ranche toward Glennfield Trail, an easy, mostly flat route through open meadows where deer, hawks, and songbirds are regular visitors. It's just the right length for little legs and offers plenty of opportunities to stop, explore, and enjoy the scenery.

Don't Miss

After your walk, wander through the beautiful Ranche Gardens tucked between the restaurant and Annie's Cafe. Many visitors don't even realize they're there, but they're one of the park's most peaceful spots.

Treat Stop

No trip to Bow Valley Ranche is complete without a stop at Annie's. Grab a sweet treat on a warm September afternoon or warm up with hot chocolate and one of their fresh-baked cookies or muffins on a crisp October day. Find a seat on the porch and simply enjoy the view. Annie's also serves soups, sandwiches, and coffee if you're ready for lunch.

Gasoline Alley Museum – Heritage Park

If the village has closed for the season, the Railway Café (located outside the admission gates) is open year-round and offers soups, sandwiches, coffee, and fresh baking.
